Mobility in Tirana: Exploring the role of youth in Recycling and Waste Management Campaigns

From 26 to 30 January 2026, the first international mobility of the Erasmus+ project “Fostering Active Youth Participation in Environmental Advocacy” (Project number: 2025-1-BG01-KA154-YOU-000305144) took place in Tirana, Albania. The mobility brought together 24 young participants from Bulgaria, Albania, and Germany to explore how young people can actively contribute to improving recycling and waste management through environmental campaigns.

The activity was hosted by StarBalkans (Albania) and organized in cooperation with the project partners Association FOR YOU (Bulgaria) – the project coordinator, and Aiforia – ecoculture e.V. (Germany).

During the five-day mobility, participants took part in a series of non-formal educational activities, workshops, and discussions focused on environmental advocacy and youth participation. The programme included sessions on the structure of environmental campaigns, tools for defining campaign goals, strategies, and target audiences, as well as the use of digital tools and e-petitions in environmental activism.

Participants also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Municipality of Tirana and learn about good practices in organizing environmental initiatives and campaigns. Through teamwork and interactive methods, young people developed their own campaign ideas related to recycling and waste management, which they will implement in their local communities in Varna, Tirana, and Freiburg during April 2026.

The mobility encouraged learning by doing, allowing participants to strengthen their communication, teamwork, creativity, and leadership skills, while gaining practical knowledge about organizing impactful environmental campaigns. This activity represents an important step in building a network of young environmental leaders who are motivated to raise awareness about recycling and waste management and actively contribute to sustainable development in their communities.
