Association FOR YOU and Foundation SOS- Families in risk organize sexual education training for youngsters with disabilities

Association For You and Foundation SOS Families At Risk are developing a series of trainings on Sexual Education and Human Rights for the youngsters in Association For You. The trainings were given by staff and volunteers of Foundation SOS in the office of Association FOR YOU. The project wants to promote the healthy and responsible sexual practices among the youngsters with disabilities. The workshops started the 17th of October and the main topics and problems addressed were Human Rights, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/Aids, Sexual Violence and Human Trafficking.

Both organizations consider very important to address these topics among youngsters as more that 67 per cent of the newly diagnosed registered cases of HIV infections are from youngsters between 15 and 29. During the one hour trainings, they had the possibility of deepen on the causes of the STD's and the best ways to prevent the risk of infection.

The sexual violence modules opened the debate on some everyday life situations in the sexual and love relationships. With some key questions and examples of sexual harassment the youngsters started a debate based on their ideas and thoughts. This debate helped them to explore some prejudices and stereotypes. They also had the possibility to discuss some of the examples given during the training at home and shared them later with the rest of the participants.

The last workshop on the 12th of December raised the issue of the Human Trafficking. This is an important topic because of the increasing number of people with disabilities victims of human traffick that both organizations face. The youngsters learned how trafficking works and how to identify some potentially dangerous situations and how to handle them.

Association FOR YOU and SOS Foundation-Families at risk are very satisfied with the results and involvement of the participants. This initiative was proved to be highly necessary as it addressed everyday life problems and situations that can affect particularly youngsters with disabilities. Both organizations consider also very positive the active participation of the families (discussing the topics with their sons and daughters at home), and the involvement of the volunteers and staff in the training.
