My European Voluntary Service in Ukraine

An international team of EVS volunteers

My host organization is located in the city of Donetsk and is called "Alliance". Our first week here was entirely dedicated to work in the integration of the volunteers and the inter-cultural differences. We got to know the traditions and customs of the countries of the EVS volunteers that are part of our multicultural group (Turkey, Portugal, Italy, Poland and Bulgaria).

By the end of February, we had trainings and workshops on project management and marketing, getting used to work with the blog, financial planning for projects, and training our skills as mediators. These trainings aim to help us with the planning and implementation of our own project within our stay here.

Working with "Alliance" is very pleasant, helpful and motivating, especially since they encourage the volunteers to work in a field that motivates them and to develop the project of their dreams. The organization is doing everything possible to help the EVS volunteers in all possible ways. Their young team was able to envision the interests of the different volunteers. Taking into account our preferences, they organize additional trainings, meetings with representatives of local NGOs, schools and visits to the municipality. Thus, they facilitate and inspire the volunteers to take an active part in various civic initiatives and youth activities.

Volunteering in a cultural project

The project, we are planning to work in is called "Learn with heart" and aims to promote education through alternative contemporary art among young people aged between 10 and 20 years. It will take place on the territory of "Izolyatsiya" - A platform for cultural initiatives where local artists and curators participate. Meanwhile, I will take part as volunteer in two of their projects for social integration.

I am really glad because I have the opportunity to actively interact with interesting people from different nationalities and with different interests. Movement, positive communication and tolerance will lead us all one step forward to a better future!
