Iveta Stoyanova: You can’t go wrong if you act bravely and from the heart
Hello! My name is Iveta and I am 24 years old. I graduated in Bulgarian philology and currently work as a teacher, but my true passion remains art. I like to read, draw, dance, stare at pictures for hours, go to the theater, watch good movies and laugh out loud in the company of loved ones. Sometimes I meekly sink into the noise of the hectic city, but often I seek the embrace of nature, where barefoot walks and the breadth of the horizon allow me to be completely myself – without shame and inhibitions.
Have you volunteered before and what motivated you to apply for this project?
I first became a volunteer in my school years, then by a happy accident I came across the student volunteer organization AIESEC. My last experience with volunteering is with Uspelite.bg, which gave me the opportunity to touch the world of journalism and write about topics that really excite me. I love to write, but I’ve always done it just for myself. It was important for me to challenge myself and find out if journalism is not my thing.
Tell us about your experience at Uspelite.bg – what were your main tasks, what did you learn about yourself, what new skills did you acquire and how did the volunteer service change you?
I learned a lot about myself, how I work, how I write, what are the important issues for me and what is the direction in which I want to continue my development. The most valuable thing for me was that I was constantly informed about the good things that are happening in the world, those that are worth being told and read. I read, wrote articles, did interviews, even got involved in some of the causes I talked about. I realized that it is vital for me to invest my time in something that brings value, provokes, helps not only me, but also others.
Were there any challenges?
I am used to being surrounded by people in my work, especially children, since I am a teacher. My biggest challenge was the time spent in silence behind the screen.
Do you have a favorite moment from volunteering?
Maybe the moment I was able to meet some of the team.
What would you say to young people to motivate them to volunteer?
Every experience is valuable. Challenge yourself, try new things, even if you don’t know exactly where it will take you. If you have a field for expression, use it. You can’t go wrong if you act boldly and from the heart.
What awaits you after the end of the project?
It’s hard for me to answer definitively, but I have a lot of work ahead of me and, hopefully, new adventures.
