Agent 00was7e: Empowering youth for a greener Europe through recycling

“Agent 00was7e- Licence to Recycle” is an Erasmus + project which addresses the problem of waste produced in Europe and its recycling rate. This project is organized by Ambiente è Vita (Italy), Association FOR YOU (Bulgaria) and Jugendvision (Stuttgart, Germany) and it is eighteen months long (1.2.2024-31.8.2025).
The European Union is dedicated to fostering a circular economy as a solution to take on ever-pressing environmental challenges, especially by implementing stringent regulations and initiatives to promote recycling and reducing waste. Young people lack a deep understanding of sustainable practices and the importance of the circular economy, which leads to irresponsible behaviours and a failure to adopt eco-friendly practices.
A zero-waste strategy, which is based on a waste prevention policy, must involve the community, which is often unaware of waste-related issues, especially the youth, whose environmental sensitivity is little perceived. Adequate reuse and separate collection guarantee quality waste management.
“Agent 00was7e – Licence to Recycle“ will provide young people with personal development based on environmental issues, thanks to online and onsite non-formal learning. Its aim is to enable youth to act as spokespersons for the innovative recycling techniques they’ve learned and propose a new waste management system within their communities, since they will be able to disseminate good practices on waste management. Also, by participating in this project, participants will develop their environmental educational skills and be able to support the goal of making the EU green and sustainable. This project will raise awareness among young people about waste reduction and the circular economy, and develop skills for active youth involvement in ecological transition within their communities, through a process of learning and direct experience. “Agent 00was7e – Licence to Recycle“ has the aim to make young people, coming from disadvantaged areas, environmental educators sensitive to sustainability issues.
Activities of the project include mobility in Brussels and learning webinars. During the mobility in Brussels, which is planned for November, participants will have a chance to enrich knowledge, exchange experiences, and participate in key events related to waste management and environmental sustainability, visit a leading company in waste management and participate in events related to the environmental field planned by the EC, which will be held at the European Parliament. Learning webinars modules aim to deepen knowledge and skills on the project’s themes. The Association FOR YOU will organize three meetings, starting from July, focused on waste abandonment and the situation in Bulgaria, with particular attention to the negative aspects related to the port of Varna and waste trafficking. The young participants will be guided in analysing the issues related to low environmental awareness, limited knowledge of the circular economy, and the widespread problem of waste abandonment in rural areas. The goal is to convey a deeper understanding of the social roots of such environmental behaviours and provide the participants with knowledge.
The local events during which the involved youth will present what has been achieved in the project and spread the innovative recycling methodologies adopted by virtuous waste recycling countries, which will be illustrated via video will be organized as dissemination at the end of project. The local event will involve journalists, representatives of local institutions and waste management companies, environmental associations, and the public. The format of local events is a public conference with formal speeches, young participants, and local institutions, along with testimonials of experiences.
During the conferences, young people will present the contents learned and the materials created to spread good practices and promote sustainable behaviour in the community.
